Gabions & Retaining Structures

Building safe and sturdy retaining structures perfect for your site

What is a gabion and retaining structure?

CAN design and construct safe, robust retaining structures tailored to the specific requirements of each site.

Gabions provide a cost‑effective and efficient solution for creating gravity retaining structures, walls, and site boundaries. While highly functional, they can also be designed to deliver an attractive, sympathetic finish where visual impact is important.

Other forms of retaining structures include:

  • Precast concrete wall systems, either freestanding or anchored
  • Reinforced earth walls
  • Cast in situ concrete walls
  • Sprayed concrete retaining walls

Retaining structures are commonly required to restrain existing ground masses that present safety concerns, or to support ground in anticipation of future backfill, enabling risks to be addressed proactively rather than reactively.
