Sprayed Concrete and Detention
At CAN Geotechnical, sprayed concrete (shotcrete) and dentition are delivered as part of an integrated rock face and slope stabilisation strategy, designed around the specific demands of each site.
Shotcrete is not simply applied as a surface treatment. It is used to provide immediate stabilisation and enhance the overall performance of the system — working in combination with rock bolts, anchors, and mesh solutions to deliver a durable, long-term stabilisation.
Wet or Dry Sprayed?
Wet or dry sprayed concrete is used depending on the site constraints and requirements of the overall solution.
- Wet-sprayed concrete is applied directly via readymix loads and can be used to quickly cover large areas and volumes.
- Dry-sprayed concrete is typically used where less overall volume is required, and/or access may be more restricted.
Our concrete mixes can be designed to incorporate accelerators, reinforcement fibres, and even pigments to match the colour of the surrounding rock.
What is Detention?
Dentition provides a physical barrier to halt the preferential weathering of softer rock strata, whilst offering support to overlying rock to resist toppling failure.
It is applied selectively to address localised defects, voids, and irregular rock profiles, and can be built up using sprayed concrete or by the installation of stonework or even concrete bags.
By reconstructing weakened areas and improving load transfer within the rock mass, potential failure points can be eliminated, and this will reinforce the overall stability of the slope or cutting.
